CETI's system of islands is designed to maximize profitability within the value chain. The upstream island would grow and harvest the microalgae. The midstream island would process the product; drying, separating the products, refining, producing hydrogen and methane, and converting biofuel into standardized drop-in fuel. The downstream island would serve as an offshore holding facility making the delivery of biofuel easy and convenient to fuel tankers via designated jetties. On shore CETI would also have holding facilities as well as a grid system that could provide electricity to other grids.
